“Whether you’re a farmer, builder or engineer, the opportunities are equal: Just add a little innovation.”
                                                                                                                                                                ~ Strive Masiyiwa

A  team of innovative students from the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) proved Mr. Masiyiwa right last November when they won the prestigious NITI Aayog prize in the inaugural edition of the Proffer Hackathon held at IIT, New Delhi. Their award-winning entry was ‘AgroChain’, a blockchain-based transparent marketplace where farmers and consumers can implement a co-operative farming method.

One faculty member at IIIT told BusinessLine that in addition to AgroChain winning the NITI Aayog prize at the international blockchain hackathon, the students who developed AgroChain,  “could likely get dovetailed with the IndiaChain initiative, the Centre’s full-fledged blockchain infrastructure project.”

The international Hackathon was organized at IIT-Delhi by NITI Aayog and Proffer, a Harvard-based blockchain startup.
